Any metropolitan area has what is known as its “path of progress,” a movement that tends to wend its way through a particular part of a city in a particular direction. In the case of Los Angeles, over the past decade we have seen this phenomenon working its way east through Silver Lake, then northeast through Echo Park and more recently up through the area between the Glendale and Pasadena Freeways known as the “Northeast Corridor”; the heart of which is Mt Washington.

In the ‘90’s, Silver Lake was the hot spot for young hipsters and professionals to light; in the 2000’s it became Echo Park. Now, we find many headed to Mt Washington and other surrounding communities (Highland and Glassell Park) as a natural alternative due to its rolling hills, winding roads, views and rustic ambience.

As, artists and young professionals discover Mt Washington a cultural ‘makeover’ is beginning to occur. Real estate opportunities exist for young couples and other enterprising people that range anywhere from a cosmetic fixer to a major renovations project. Hip, trendy coffee houses, restaurants and other shops have started to spring up along the main boulevards and the number of vintage homes having been professionally rehabbed and restored to their original splendor, is on the rise.

Mt Washington is lighting up the L.A. real estate scene because one can create a home that is both a nice place to live as well as a great financial investment for the future.
